Doug and Michaelanne Johnson purchased Sunrise Kennels in 1977. Thirteen years later, in 1990, they purchased Woodmen Kennels, which is located right next door to Sunrise.

Sunrise and Woodmen Kennels are a family owned and operated organization. Doug and Michaelanne have raised five children in the business and all are actively involved today! The children, Candaceanne, Courtneyanne, Carrieanne, Corrissaanne, and Colton are working as pet groomers, office, and dog trainers and handlers.

Today the Johnson's enjoy caring for the pets of the second generation customer's children.

The Johnson’s have received many awards throughout their careers, but none as prestigious as the 2006 AKC Breeder of the Year and the 2006 Hearding Dog of the Year award with their son Colton and Old English Sheepdog “Smokin.”  In 2016 they received the AKC Breader of the Year, again!
